Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is an iconic monument located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It was a gift from France to the United States, symbolizing freedom, democracy, and the enduring friendship between the two nations. The statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and was dedicated on October 28, 1886. Standing at a height of 305 feet from the ground to the tip of the torch, the statue depicts a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty, holding a torch above her head with her right hand and a tablet inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence in her left hand. The Statue of Liberty has become a universal symbol of freedom and a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving by sea to the United States.
